Red’s Journey is a series of narrative gouache paintings depict the protagonist, Red, traveling through desolate landscapes to reunite with her girlfriend. All of these paintings are made with gouache on various canvases, as I experimented with different surfaces. I wanted the predominant feeling of the work to be longing and loneliness, which is resolved by the Reunion. Though Red originated in a color theory exercise, she quickly took on a life of her own and I began to develop a world around her. My interest in art has long included comics and other narrative forms, so I got in touch with that part of myself when creating this series. I envisioned a sort of picture book for an older audience with a fantasy flavor while creating these pieces.
